Why attend a Single-Gender College?
Here is what one women's college (Agnes Scott) says:
"Research shows that single-sex colleges offer young women the ideal environment in which to develop confidence, to excel academically and to learn and practice leadership. In our close-knit community, students gain confidence as they speak up and express their ideas, perform on stage, or prepare to spend a semester abroad. They excel academically as they work in small groups with high-caliber faculty, often in previously unexplored disciplines such as mathematics, economics and the hard sciences."
Here is what one men's college (Hampden-Sydney) says:
"Although most high school guys tend to have a very negative initial reaction to the idea of attending a men's college (most of the guys in the Admissions Office did), once students take a closer look they tend to understand the many benefits of a single sex learning environment. Not only do most Hampden-Sydney students find the single sex classroom environment more open and free for discussion, but they also come to appreciate the close friendships that develop because of the weekday social structure."
